From Years 3 to 6, children continue to be taught by their class teacher in most subjects, though there are specialist teachers for French, Music and Physical Education. This includes swimming and tennis, which are both taught by professional coaching staff.
Herries pupils work in an atmosphere that encourages achievement in the classroom and beyond. Our aim is to develop the ability to work independently and to this end we set regular homework tasks, appropriate to the age of the child and their abilities and interests.
The core subjects of English and Mathematics are taught on a daily basis and Science twice weekly. In small classes, the children have weekly sessions of French, Geography, History and Religious Education, PSHE, Music, Art, Design Technology and ICT. Physical Education is taught three times a week using a range of activities that features individual and team sports. Beyond the lessons in class, there are many opportunities for children to develop their abilities in Art, Music, ICT and Technology and to participate in musical and dramatic activities. All pupils at Key Stage 2 are members of the choir and frequently take part in concerts and festivals. More details appear in the Music and Drama pages.
All the children have the opportunity to benefit from our after school clubs
