Herries recognises how important it is that the growing minds and bodies of children are well nourished during the day.
Every child has school lunch, prepared and cooked freshly each day by our Head Chef, Mrs Pegg and her fantastic team. Seasonal, organic and free range produce is used to create a nutritionally balanced meal. Bread is freshly baked each day on the premises and there is home-made soup in the colder months.
Wherever possible, we use fair trade, organic, PLA and bio-degradable products and foods that are free from GM products.
A salad bar offers an alternative to the hot dish of the day and fresh fruit is always available alongside the main pudding.
Lunch is taken in the School Hall, which is transformed each day into ‘The Willows Restaurant’. Nursery and Reception children sit at tables with staff, who serve the food and maintain the family-style atmosphere. Older children may sit with their friends and take more responsibility for what they eat. We give guidance on this through our focus on Healthy Eating, part of the pastoral curriculum.
