Welcome from Rob Grosse

Herries is a delightful, popular co-ed preparatory school in Berkshire for children from 2 to 11 years old.  It is a small school, with a strong family ethos and excellent academic results.  Herries was rated excellent in all areas by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) in 2022.

Our supportive family atmosphere enables pupils to thrive and achieve their full potential and develop life skills by following our Herries Values:

Happiness
Enthusiasm
Respect
Resilience
Independence
Excellence
Sincerity

Manners, personal responsibility, tolerance and respect are nurtured at Herries.  Our pupils benefit from smaller class sizes allowing tailored teaching and more individual attention and learning time.  Children leave Herries to a variety of destination schools, ranging from grammar schools to both selective and non-selective independent secondary schools.

Our ethos involves developing the whole child as a rounded individual by means of our broad educational provision. Character education and our wide-ranging curriculum provide opportunities for the children to be involved in public speaking, drama, music, art, sports and numerous extra-curricular activities and clubs.

Our distinctive setting in Cookham Dean is in the former home of Kenneth Grahame, where ‘Wind in the Willows’ was written. We are rooted in our local area, but we also draw pupils who have lived around the world, contributing to a true community feel.

We offer a warm Herries welcome and look forward to meeting you.
